Breaking Reverie @ The Oven
October 16 @ 6:00 pm - 11:00 pm
An event every day that begins at 6:00pm, repeating until October 20, 2018
Presenting ideas of magic, natural phenomena and virtual landscapes, Heather Lander’s new work, Breaking Reverie, reflects on the natural world, with a view to understanding the ways in which the virtual will change our perception of the self and our physical landscape. Award winning composer, Michael Begg, provides a textured sonic backdrop for this immersive light sculpture.
“As your eyes adjust to the light’s ever-changing reflections and refractions, the beautiful geometric constructs take on their own three-dimensional life.” The Cusp
Through illusion, reflection, projection mapping and ink drawing, this moving light sculpture presents an eternal day break on a distant horizon. At the edge between darkness and dawn, it draws you into an abstract landscape. Part physical, part virtual, Breaking Reverie questions what lies beyond.
Lander’s practice focuses on ideas of magic, the virtual and the ways technology can, and will, affect our interpretation of reality. She continues her research into time, light and most recently, has begun to introduce sound into her installations – this is something she plans to continue experimenting with and developing over the coming years.
Breaking Reverie will launch in Dumfries, at the Oven (135-139 High Street) on Thursday 11th October from 7pm.
The installation will then be available to view from the street until the 20th October, between 6 and 11pm every evening.*
*Please note there will be no access inside the Oven during the installation, except as part of the Launch event.
