Community Engagement Opportunity with D-LUX

D-LUX is an annual festival of light-based art for Dumfries Town Centre taking place each January for 4 days. It offers multiple creative journeys using light as a mediating layer: Light as signal – narrative – memory – metaphor. D-Lux creates playful experiences of depth rather than simply of scale.

D-LUX is part of a local, arts-led drive to imagine new futures for Dumfries Town Centre, working in partnership with The Big Burns Supper, The Stove Network, The People’s Project and DMC. It is unique in that it is funded by local Funeral Director Jardine’s with match funding from Arts and Business.

The dates for D-Lux 2019 are Wednesday 23rd January to the 26th January.

D-LUX are looking for an engagement worker to identify or create groups from the gaming community to work with them to create the ARCADE, a huge playable space in the town centre. Their proposition is that over three nights, the public will be able join in playing cutting edge video games that will be projected on and within buildings around the town. Multiple worlds – multiple stories – multiple players.

This innovative project requires a highly motivated person with good interpersonal skills and infectious enthusiasm to seek out and involve game players in the town. They will be expected to help the D-LUX team with planning and running a complex event in public space and act as a focus for the involvement of young people.

Their initial budget leading up to the festival is £1,500 with an additional £500 set aside for expenses. The role would commence in August/September 2018.

The successful candidate would need to sign up to our vulnerable child and adult policy and undergo a PVG check.
