blueprint100 are seeking a young emerging artist, theatre practitioner or musician (25 or under*) or creative team (led by under 25’s*) for example theatre company, band/orchestra, arts collective, to help produce the Salty Coo Procession at this year’s Nithraid.
(* applicants should be living in, or with a connection to Dumfries and Galloway)
Nithraid is a community-led River Festival that takes place beside and on Dumfries’ River Nith. (see http://www.thestove.org/nithraid/) The Salty Coo is the emblem of Nithraid and part of the festival is a procession that carries the Coo from the town centre to the water’s edge. Each year the procession is re-invented by a creative person/team and has had many themes in the past; ranging from “Inclusion and Diversity” to a historical Nordic theme of “Vikings versus clowns”. Artists involved previously have experimented with public and community engagement.
The overarching theme of the festival this year is international relationships as we have 60 young international visitors coming to support the festival through the project, Amaze Me. For the procession itself, blueprint100 invite you to explore and interpret the theme of “Ritual”. The procession is an opportunity to create, re-imagine and interpret the parade through Dumfries town centre as a public artwork.
As a young artist or arts collective you will receive the full support of the Stove and blueprint100, including space, informal mentorship from our curatorial teams and the strategic support of our events team who can help you connect with groups and communities who have expressed an interest in participating with this year’s procession.
The budget available to you for the project is £1000 (+ some travel expenses) – this will include all materials and your fee. There is also additional resource for working with other groups who have expressed an interest in joining in with this year’s procession.
If you would like to find out more about Nithraid and this opportunity please contact The Stove or blueprint100 on 01387 252435, email@example.com or message us on social media – We will be very happy to chat things through with you and answer any questions you might have.
Please apply by sending a short letter outlining why you are interested in the project, any initial ideas you might have and how the project might help you develop as a creative person.
Applications should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org
Deadline for applications is the Thursday 28th June at midnight.
