The Stove’s Heritage Lottery supported project Our Norwegian Story is approaching its final stages. We have been sharing stories around outside fires, eating specialities that span both nations, sewing, making, building, listening and celebrating. A journey that has taken us back into our Viking roots and forward into the themes that continue with us surrounding what it means to house those in need from another land.
The 14th and 15th of April will see the launch of Dumfries’ Norwegian Heritage Trail through the town to highlight places of significance to this story. For this event The Stove will become the start and end point for an interactive exploration of these places which will host a temporary plaque at each location.
Commission 1 – Sign Posting and Waymarking – £250 fee (materials will be covered separately)
Commission 1 is to explore and create signage for our event to give the Trail more of a visual presence in the town and connect with participants as they journey from place to place. We are looking for creative, temporary ideas in a visual medium to achieve this but open to expansive methods of implementation. This could include (but is not limited to), hand painted signs, flags or way markers, posters or banners etc.
Commission 1 is supported by the Stove’s Conversing Building project, which looks to explore how the Stove building at 100 High Street communicates visually with Dumfries and the selected artist will liaise with Katie Anderson who is leading on this broader project. You will be responsible for the creation and installation of your chosen artwork or signage but can use The Stove resources and space.
Commission 2 – Trail Launch Closing Performance/Event – £500 (Inclusive of fee and materials)
Commission 2 is for an event, installation or intervention to close our Trail Launch event on Saturday the 15th of April around 6pm. This could be a performance or visual intervention that brings people together to consider Dumfries’ Story relative to its Norwegian connections. We are open to any medium and creative means of achieving this.
Application: Please send 500 words max describing your idea along with a CV and 3 examples of previous work to the above address by the 12th of March.
You will need to be available for interview on the 14th & 15th of March.
Commissions to be fully completed for the Trail Launch on the 13th, 14th and 15th April.
