Act as if We Own The Place: Artist Commission Opportunity

Act as If We Own The Place
Artist Commission Opportunity

Act As IfThe Stove Network is seeking an artist/designer/writer/maker to create an original piece of work in response to the ‘Act As If We Own The Place’ project.

‘Act As If We Own The Place’ is a community empowerment event developed and supported by the Electoral Reform Society. It aims to encourage communities to develop skills and interest in taking their future into their own hands. The idea is to form a ‘people’s council’ for the evening and grow some real policies that Dumfries can then take forward.

We are proposing to focus our event around a single issue of Transport and shape a ‘Peoples Transport’ policy for Dumfries through the evening. We will commission an artist/designer/writer to attend and use the event as the starting material for a new artwork that they will create to continue the momentum of the project.

We have no preconceptions about the form that artwork could take, it could be a booklet, a film, a set of photographs/prints, a poem, a performance…any, all or none of the above.

As part of the commission you will be required to attend the Act as if You Own the Place event on 15th June, followed by a period of development and the final outcomes to be shared in July 2017 at a date and format suitable to the commissioned work.

An artist fee of £400, to include materials and transport is available.

To apply, please send:

  • letter of interest in the project
  • information about you/your practice
  • two examples of previous work
to katie<at>thestove.org by Friday 2nd June
